1.How long after starting stimulation will egg collection be?

Ovulation induction may last approximately for 12 days.

2.About the monitoring during stimulation phase of treatment:

a) what monitoring normally takes place during the stimulation phase of the treatment (e.g. blood tests for oestrogen, for progesterone and scans)?

Follicle measurements and hormone levels in blood will indicate the time for oocyte aspiration.

b) What will you be looking for (in the monitoring) to decide when egg collection will be?

Monitoring of ovarian response is performed by ultrasound scans and blood hormone levels

c) How many eggs will you be expecting at egg collection?

10-12 eggs are expected to retrieve.

3.About the egg collection:

a) Will I have a general anesthetic or sedation during the procedure?

You will have sedation during oocyte pick-up and not feel any pain.

b) What pain relief will I need/get after egg collection?

You will need mild pain killers after oocyte pick-up.

4.Is there anything we can do to improve the quality of the eggs or the sperm? (e.g. lifestyle factors or supplements)

At this moment you can not do anything to increase the quality of egg and sperm. Stop smoking if you do.

5.About the embryo transfer:

a) How many days after egg collection will this be (on average)?

Embryo transfer is done 3 to 5 days after oocyte pick-up.

b) How many cells would you expect them to be by then? (grateful for your advice on blastocysts and assisted hatching)

Assited hatching is still debatable however we have laser instrument and hatching is performed in women over 35 and/ or when embryos have a thick zone. Assisted hatching is also used when the patient has a previous multiple implantation failure in the IVF cycle. Blastocyst transfer is performed in our center in cases that have more than 10 eggs.

c) How do you grade the embryos?

Emryo grading is performed according to number and the appearance of the cells (blastomers)

d) Under what conditions would you freeze any ‘spare’ embryos?

If spare emryos are good in shape and minister of blastomers is appropriate it means that they are worth to freeze.

6.Will I be receiving (or do you recommend) any additional treatment during this cycle of ICSI (e.g. low dose aspirin, IVIG, heparin etc.)

We give aspirin and corticosteroids after embryo transfer.

7.How long after embryo transfer will it be safe for me to fly back to home country?

you can travel 1-2 days after embryo transfer

8.What if any medication that may be required after embryo transfer-will you prescribe for me before my return home?

We will provide all medications before you leave Turkey

9.What are the risks (including side-effects) that we need to be aware of?

Every patient responds on the ovarian stimulation differently. Sometimes, cases may to be cancelled because of poor ovarian response or ovarian hyper stimulation.

Another main reason for canceling treatment will be none-presence of sperm in the azospermic patient after the testicular biopsy procedure ( Micro-TESE)
